Troubleshooting guide
Fix Your Gasifier
Something not running right? Work through these common problems and solutions to get your system back on track.
Start Here Before You Dig In
Most gasifier problems fall into a handful of categories: fuel quality, air leaks, tar buildup, and improper temperatures. Before chasing exotic causes, rule out the basics — moisture in your fuel and air leaks account for the majority of field complaints.
Work through each problem systematically. Note what changed before the issue appeared — new fuel batch, recent modifications, or a long idle period are common culprits.

General Diagnostic Tips
Keep a run log — note fuel type, moisture reading, temperatures, and any issues each session.
Perform a cold leak test before every startup using soapy water on all joints.
Measure fuel moisture with a pin-type meter before every batch — don't guess.
Let the gasifier reach steady-state temperature (15–20 minutes) before connecting to an engine load.
Clean filters and condensate traps after every 4–8 hours of operation.
